Chez Serge

Filed under: Food — emimizolie @ 7:59 pm

Yesterday night, I had dinner with some friends in a french restaurant. God, I almost forgot how good it was to be french ! This is only the second time I eat french food since I arrived in America. I should do that more often

Let me share my menu with you !

Apetizer : Snails or Escargots !

Main plate : Mussels mariniere with french fries

Dessert : Chocolate mousse with Creme caramel ( I couldn’t choose between both ! )

That moment was close to what someone called once ” Heaven” !!

ooooooooo I almost forgot the little touch that got all it’s importance : The french warm and crunchy baguette  with french creamy butter !

The simple fact of writting these words makes me about to faint!

  1. eeeew, how dare you eat snails? nasty.

  3. Nice to “meet you” too. Let me conceptualize a bit further, sir. It took a long time before we decided that killing cows and eating them was accepted, so you have to expect a little time also for something like ingesting a type of evolved worm with a shell, to become mainstream. That is nasty by definition, so I stand by my words. Granted, it is also nasty to slaughter a cow, dissecting its parts and eating them- but hey, we’ve been doing it for a while and we’re pretty damn good at it. 😛

I generally have no prejudice when it comes to killing an inferior species for my own wellbeing (sounds bad!), but with poor snails I still feel like they have a couple more decades of my pardon. I tried frogs, no match to chicken. 🙂

This sounds like a good discussion to have over wine; which, no matter in what absurd quantity, would never make me eat a snail! So, whenever we happen to be at the same latitude and altitude, the offer’s on the table.

  4. My dear Mariono ,
BIIIIP ( buzer sound ) ! ….. bad answer … if i respect your ” filling ” i don’t share it .. ( i speak mix serious mix joking )first of all when i am around a table i don’t care if we have to kill or not to survie ..the fact is that we have to kill to survive..( by the way … why do you think that snails are an inferior species ? are we superior ? i never heard about a snails make world war or killing a family included mother and babie !.. i enjoy the moment sharing with other people plaisir of life ( and table is one of the most plaisir of life ) wht about my plate ? … good test or bad test … that all … and i never refuse a new expérience … you probably not imagine all what i eat in my life … again open your mind … profit … share human expériences around a snails plate ….. could be an more interresting expérience you may imagine …… visit the world and so many different menue … snake in africa .. monkey braim in india … etc … the only one that i refused long times ago was in africa .. human leg steack ! ….. you see … the moment when you will test snails … i’m sure u will have a souvenir of me … amities jp

  5. Indeed, there is truth in your words. Nevertheless, mankind has a tendency to explore outside (countries, planets), while the real value is found inside each person. That’s why I’m not too excited for reaching out to unconventional sources of nutrition, especially when we the ones we’ve perfected over so many years are doing the job right. Do you know that mad cow disease originated from faulty new approaches to feeding cows? You can actually change (damage) an organism’s DNA by feeding it with the wrong proteins, which then change your gene expression over time to develop potential sicknesses that can’t be traced by the gene mutation technologies we have today. And there we go! I made this into another conversation of genomics! Sorry, I seem to be doing that a lot lately.

And Btw, I bet that if snails evolved enough to develop speech and currency, they’d be invading each other’s areas and waging war on each other; unfortunately it seems to be part of animal nature. Survival of the fittest. Too bad snails are too slow to attack each other (they actually get attacked upon by other species… pillage!), it could be great entertainment otherwise.

I’m glad you drew the line at human leg steak… hope to meet you one day and have argentinean steak (no BSE, no humans).

    Ciao amici,

  7. it’s just my duty sir. You see, people like you, my dad and to a lesser extent bill gates and steve jobs (hehe), belong to a generation that capitalized largely on their skills and the innate traits to take on a particular moment and make a significant impact.

Now it’s different, we need academic credentials and a lot of knowledge to have the same kind of credibility that you showed by being yourself. It’s kind of sad, sometimes I wish I could just go into business, but well, I guess it pays out in the long run.

That’s another great wine talk though, you have to try Malbec from the Mendoza province of Argentina. I’m now able to enjoy even the most rotten kind of cheese thanks to Emilie, so that’s no problem at all 🙂

you are certernly right , yes we need a lot of knowledge but that not all .. you need also courage but what’s more luck ! remenber napoleon at each general he recrute he ask same question at the end of the evaluation : do you have luck ? also you need good meeting and stay ” humble ” in french in the text to heard and leasten the other take care about other opinion before to make his own decision … yes you need knowledge from hight school …….. but it’s not suffissant … hight cshool knoowledge give you at the best actual knowledge or from the past …. you have to ” invent ” knowledge of the futur to be better than averadge population like bill gate that u cite will be over sea end of this week ….. will try Malbec wine driking with you by ” la pensé ) …. bb
